Today the markets rallied heavily. This is in part do to some positive news coming out of Europe, but a lot, I think, to do with it being the last trading day of the 2nd quarter and the beginning of the 3rd. In a phrase “window dressing” and a little short covering. Not to be “Downer Dave”, but I see no reason to get too excited about this rally. Everything on the table for this optimism is weak at best. The beginning of the 3rd quarter lasts for about 24hrs, and Europe’s issues are far from being solved. So much so that Ford got slammed today in the midst of all of this rallying. In addition to this, the reason it was slammed was because of it’s dependence on Europe to sell cars and the demand is just not there.

The Obama Care Scare is over with. Surprisingly the markets didn’t react so much to this over hyped story. Reason being, no change, is no news. If it would have been struck down, that would have signaled a totally different message and the markets definitely would have reacted to that! But Wall Street believes that President Obama will be re-elected, so victories and anything consistent with this is a non – story.

Google released its plans for the Nexus Google Tablet! It’s aimed directly at the Kindle fire! Didn’t get the buzz that Windows tablet did but maybe we’re getting a little ’shell shocked’ from new tablets. I know I’m not so excited about it…Got to give it a chance I guess!

Well that’s it for this week! Next week is a short trading week due to Independence Day, so I don’t expect much after Monday, if at all…..Until then ..Trade Responsibly my Friend!!

Questions

Can Warren Buffet’s rules be applied to daytrading the futures market? Yes. Maybe not all of his advice but good advice is good advice. You just need to know HOW to apply it to what you do! Sure, on a micro level Buffet asks questions like, does the company consistently perform well? Are the profit margins High and is does the company rely on any particular commodity. DayTraders don’t look at this stuff. But day traders don’t have to. However, in asking these questions, what he is saying is to know the business that you are investing in. Now that ‘general’ advice is crucial. When it comes to futures, you have to know the instrument that you are trading. When is the role over date? What market news most affect this instrument? What is the liquidity, the margin requirements, the volume? How does it move? When does it move & why does it move? If you take a Gold strategy and try to use it to trade wheat,…..you will be destroyed if you don’t know about certain things that makes wheat unique to most markets. A stochastic won’t tell you that Saudi Arabia is pumping more oil. Indicators can’t tell you if Greece will be kicked out of the Euro-zone. The charts couldn’t have told you that this recent heat wave is causing corn traders to make a killing on the long side. But hasn’t meant a thing to the E-Mini market. So yes, it’s important to have the good advice, its even more important to know how it applies to you!

The Market
So we had the big wammy on Thursday with the FOMC meeting minutes release! And just as I suspected the Fed made no new changes, rather just extended “operation twist” through the end of the year. As you can imagine this much anticipated market news created a well welcomed frenzy in the market, creating heavy volume and some very nice volatility. The rest of the week traded on technicals becuz the market did not receive any news as big and the FOMC meeting minutes. Oil plunged in part due to the negative world market news, and heavily becuz of the fact that Saudi Arabia is intentionally pumping oil on full throttle to provide relief to the American economy while simultaneously doing it’s part in the international effort to squeeze Iran. So what does all of this mean to you? Massive profits for those of you who are taking trades on the short side and better prices at the Gas pump for all! Also, there will be three huge reports next week in addition to any news from China, and Greece, which I watch closely to determine the market sentiment. So the last trading week in June is shaping up to be another winner…..in terms of trading opportunities!!

In Closing

Getting down to business! What’s up with the new Microsoft Tablet.! The “Surface” as it is called, is Microsoft’s latest invention!! It comes with window 8 software, usb ports, a hi-resolution screen and a built in key board to handle business effortlessly without buying accesories ….and all this comes standard! Now this begs the question that we all are just ready to argue about! And of course that question is………..Miami Heat or the Thunder ? Wait, let’s do that again……Is it an I-PAD KILLER or I-PAD VICTIM !! I think the answer to this question will have a lot to do with the eco-system rather than the product. The product is good on the surface (pun intended), but what does it cost? Does it overheat? Comes with a phone?, signal issues, does the software crash. We won’t know until it hits the shelf and these are crucial questions to determine it’s success. Regardless, there will never be a I-Pad killer. At best only an I-Pad suicide. It would take a technology that has never been seen before to even drop Apple to # 2, which is far from killing Apple. But lets say that the “Surface” tablet turns out to be excellent? Will not Apple be affected by this. Yes. Apple will no longer accumulate the converters from PC to Apple, who did so because 1) they had no viable option and 2) the cool factor. Now Apple is still going to get their’s, regardless. I mean there are people walking around with Apple tattoo’s sitting in tents for a week for the phones, tablets and whatever. They are never leaving Apple. However, the rest of PC’s who don’t want to learn a new operating system, and definitely will not stand in a line longer than five minutes will welcome this new tablet with open arms!! The point is that the two can co-exist as very successful products. However, this could be a huge problem for the samsung galaxie and the rest of the Android tablet space. Because non-Apple customers have no loyalty! You won’t see a line extended 3 blocks for windows or android anything. So if the “Surface” is hot, the rest of the market will have to step their game up BIG TIME!! Because there is just not enough market share for 2 HUGE companies and the rest.

The markets are up up up! Why? The environment is calling for more Ben Benanke internvention through the use of Operation Twist or whatever the want to call it. Regardless, the market is convinced that the Fed is going to step in and boost the American economy once again. You combine this with the fact the the “good-guys” won the election over in Greece, the market is pricing in all of the up-beat data! The Fed is meeting ”as we speak” but the meeting minutes won’t be released til’ tomorrow afternoon so hold on to your seat when this one comes out. It has alot of eye balls on it. Personally, I suspect that Ben will release a much less exiting statement than what the market is pricing in, especially as soon as tomorrow! Either way, for Wednesday’s trading it will be a “live one” early, but then look for a slow crawl until the news is released. Til then……..Trade Responsibly my friend…

Oh, and as always, look to Day Trader Training for Trading Made Simple…………..
In this market environment it is difficult to know where to allocate your capital. To look at things in a simple way, it pays to put your money with the best of the best. And of all of the economies to invest in, it seems that the American economy is doing the best. Or rather, America has the least worst of the “not so great markets”around the world. But what is an American company? Well you can certainly find the answer in the obvious, like McDonald’s, Ford, and maybe Hallibuton, that oil company associated with Bush and Cheney. But not so fast. Halliburton moved it’s headquarters from Houston to Dubai!! But so what! McDonald’s has it’s headquarters right here in the “heartland of the USA”, but almost half of its revenue comes from Europe!! And with Ford, 30% of it’s revenue comes from Europe!! The point is, when it comes to the health of a business, don’t look at the address, you must look at the health of it’s customer. So if your investing in American companies thinking it’s a safe haven, you have to do a little more homework. Because for a lot of American companies with high exposure “across the pond”, when Europe hurts, sales hurt and eventually the stock will too.

Facebook
Exactly one month to the day, facebook released it’s IPO to the public essentially guaranteeing instant riches to all that got a piece of the biggest IPO in history. Well, one month later, while the analyst are commentating about what have we learned, I digress to the good old saying that’s popular on the street….whether it’s Wall Street or Halsted…..and that is……IF IT DOESN’T MAKE MONEY, IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE !!!

Futures
Nat Gas: I know some traders that wouldn’t touch this commodity with a stick because of the rapid volatility. Strangely enough, DTT’s Blue Trade got it’s humble beginnings in Nat Gas, then Silver (during it’s liquid season) and all around the future’s space from there. At any rate, Nat Gas is bottoming out. All of the massive selling is coming to an end. This can be priceless information as the trend turns upward because you can look for the dips to identify your entries. So regardless of your current strategy, you can use the fact that you will have both fundamental and technical momentum to the upside at your huge advantage!!
Gold: Gold is topping out around 1630 , bottoming out at 1560 and trending pretty heavily in-between. I would look at the direct of the 60 minute chart and favor that direction.

THE BIG VOTE
This Sunday we are going to get the big one. Greece will be voting for either Alex Tsipras of the Syriza party or Antonis Samaras. The simple of this is, the vote will either go to Alex T. the (new young guy) who wants to scrap the bailout plan, and all of its austerity measures that would devastate the poor, tax the rich instead and renege on some of the debt!!!! The thing is, the EU has already said that if Greece reneges it will stop its funding, which will eventually lead to Greece being put out of the the euro zone. Alex has stated that the EU is full of (the stinky stuff) and is openly calling their bluff. He says that they would never risk the exit of Greece, and thumbs his nose at the EU. Surprisingly HALF of Greece supports him!!

Antonis S. is the (conservative guy) that says Alex is crazy, and that the EU would certainly make an example out of Greece to send a message to the rest of Europe. If Greece is removed, it would cause a “run on the banks” likely send a shock wave around the world….

This VOTE will not show up on the reports calendar so definitely remember to trade will extreme caution on Monday. Until then……

So the world is once again on fire! Europe’s situation is terrible. But the American numbers are terrible as well. And while most of the “chatter” on “the-street” is that our troubles can be attributed to Europe, the truth is that alot of these reports are reporting data that pre-dates Europe’s latest worries. So what should you do?

Well traders should do what they always have done, focus on your system and remain conservative and patient with your strategy. If your strategy doesn’t help you navigate volatile markets…….you can try ours!
Investors should put there money with a reputable company or somebody that knows the markets….really. Not just the sales guy.

If you invest long term you must really pay attention to what history says. This is how I know that the market would start to sell off in April!. Should you buy now? I wouldn’t! There is more down side to come………why try to catch a falling knife? Go with the trend. Better yet look to recent history. This EXACT same thing happened last year at the EXACT same time. So look for some form of quantitative easing if things continue on last years trend. We’ve seen this movie before………so make money on it!!

Futures Traders: Look for trades to be early. May be easier to spot trades in the European market hours. However, you should also note that today Monday and Tuesday are holidays in Europe so you won’t have the normal volume. Til Wednesday. But Bernanke speaks on Thursday and the International report is on Friday, so the market will slow to a crawl near mid morning. Watch for the whip-saw!

Quote: When panic is in the air…………………take a deep breath………and Think!

Until later…………Trade responsibly my friend.

After the last email……..I was asked “How does Facebook compare with Google? They made money on selling smart advertising, so why not Facebook?” This is true. The difference is in the business model. Why do you go to Google? Granted, Google now has a bazillion products………Google voice, chrome, web, mobile, on and on and on……Google has two main products that makes Google what it is today. The Search Engine, and YOUTUBE. So why Google? The answer to this question is a rhetorical as asking someone “why do you go to the Grocery store” or “why are you at the Movie Theatre”..It ain’t for the $8 box of popcorn!! People go to Google to look for stuff. And companies pay BIG DOUGH to be in that colored box at the top of that search list, linking that user to you’re website. Not to mention more ads on the side. Oh, and if you fork over some more cash they’ll give the user a free map to you’re store and a “Google’s reviews rating”!! This is no different than producers paying grocery stores for the best shelf space at eye level. And the shopper doesn’t mind not -one- bit!! The same with Google. We don’t mind the ads because we’re there looking for something in the first place!! Whether it be answers to a question, or products or whatever!! On the contrary, an Ad on Facebook is like going to a CUB’S game and the guy siting behind you is trying to sell you a new kitchen knife set!! It totally ruins the experience!! Again, like Microsoft and Apple, Google’s business model links the consumer’s needs with profits. It’s goes “hand-in-hand”. Facebook is a SOCIAL network. I don’t see how it’s going to capture the consumer without drastic changes, that would drive it’s users to another social network… Tumblr, Google plus or something. In fact, as far as I can see, the only social event I know where the user looks forward to the Ads…is the SUPERBOWL !!!!!

Futures
The futures market was a tough one earlier in the day as the market was thin, largely due to this Memorial Day Weekend. The markets are closed on Monday, but we have some HUGE reports next week that is guaranteed to rock the boat. Expect trades to happen in earlier part of the trading sessions. We’ll capitalize on that for sure next week!! My mouth is watering………

Til’ then have an AWESOME WEEKEND!!!!!

I was asked by a reader if I would invest in Apple or Facebook……and why? The answer to this question is simple. I would rather invest in Apple, why? Because they sell stuff for a profit. I don’t want anyone to think that I am trashing Facebook. But there is a misconception out there. The saying is “invest in things you know”. But I feel it should be……”invest in things you know will make you money”!! Just because you like something doesn’t mean that you’re going to make money from the stock. Sure, Zuckerburg is viewed as a silicon valley prodigy along with Bill Gates, and Steve Jobs. All three have products that are widely loved and even depended on all over the world. All three focused completely on the user’s experience, rather than the stock price and the share holders. They simply made awesome products!!. The difference is, for Apple and Microsoft, focusing on the customer increases revenue……because they’re not just users, they’re buyers!!! And as GM clearly stated when they discontinued their ads-contract with Facebook, focusing on the customer doesn’t do crap for those who are trying to sell stuff to the user. I mean, when was the last time you bought something because you saw an ad on Facebook? Besides, do you even look at the ads?Furthermore the model is fundamentally flawed because one major reason people like Facebook is because they DON’T have a bunch of ads jumping all over the screen. This is why Apple and Microsoft stock is fundamentally superior to Facebook. For Apple and Microsoft, ad or NO ad, a happy customer produces a happy stock holder!!

What the heck is going on with Mark Z. Actually, Zuckerburg is straight. He made billions. Got married. Congratulations, etcetera etcetera. But the stock man! What the heck is going on with the stock!! It’s a dud, by any measurement. But what are the implications? Being one of the biggest IPO’s in history, you are sure to have a lot more scrutiny over any future IPO that is NOT making money. Personally, I feel it doesn’t help when the CEO is adamant on telling people how much Facebook is not going to change. YOU DON’T MAKE ANY MONEY SON!! (revenue , that is). YOU HAVE TO CHANGE. This is the ONLY reason to legitimately invest in FACE BOOK, In hopes that is will eventually SELL SOMETHING!! So you gotta come off of the lingo-dude. And sure, there were glitches and mishaps By NASDAQ that took place and had some affect on price action. But that was soooooooo YESTERDAY. The stock action was terrible at the IPO and it’s out right embarrassing today. Well not to Mark because…well, he made Billions. But you know what I mean!! So at bargain prices, is it a buy?? Again, I will step out on a lem and say….ABSOLUTELY NOT. Why? There is NO-WAY at company can live up to the expectations placed on Facebook. Even if they make money, they will never live-up to expectations. Even if they tried! Which brings me too the biggest point. Mark says openly in so many words “that he doesn’t give a heck”, he wants FaceBook to remain the same…….AND I BELIEVE HIM!!

Greece Greece Greece! Just blame Greece for everything! Not me! I’m taking the road less traveled. I think the market is selling off not purely due to UN-certainty, but do to ABSOLUTE certainty !! That’s right…….I said it!! Sound’s crazy that I would say the market is selling off because is certainty. Everybody knows that markets’ hates un-certainty and love’s clarity. I even know that! But that’s exactly what I’m saying!! Huh?

Follow-me on this one. The markets don’t like what’s going on in Greece, that’s a given. But Friday this week, Mark Zuckerberg will be the richest 28 year old in the world!! And there is a ton of people with big dollars to invest that wants to go with him. So I’m stepping out of the crowd and laying it on the line. Quote me: “some of this sell off, if not most, is entirely do the fact that these huge hedge funds need to raise cash to get a piece of the action. Because they are convicted that the Facebook IPO is going to blaze some banks accounts in a very good way!!……CERTAINTY. They are selling stock, gold, momas couch…this that …….whatever. No company want’s to be the only chump on the street to have to tell their bazillionaire clients that I ‘um’…….yeah, didn’t get around to picking up any Facebook yet, but we’re looking to get some soon of course. Noooooo!!! They’re not trying to have that conversation! Anybody who’s somebody will be in there, and they’re raising cash right now to do it. That is one thing I’m sure of!!

Quote: When I am right, I’m right and when I’m wrong, I could have been right, so I am still right because I could have been wrong……………….But I’m right!

Futures: Helpful Hint
These days is shouldn’t be hard to tell that the market is very directional. In addition, because technical levels are so strong, the coupling of the market is very strong as well. Case and point. You open up the Dow, Gold, Crude, Silver, Nat Gas. All of the charts look the same. This season, it’s just a matter of finding the leader. Or just stick to what you trade. But on a Day like today, the trend started like Midnight. (est). So if you don’t bleed coffee, you have to have true entry. Don’t just hop in. Because you trading account doesn’t care that you “could’ve been right” !!

Trade responsibly—my friend!
